STRYD IS REVOLUTIONIZING SPORTS’ TECHNOLOGY WITH THE CUTTING-EDGE DEVICE THAT MEASURES RUNNERS’ POWER AND EMPOWERS THEM TO RUN FASTER, SMARTER, AND BETTER.

“We want to help people run faster, smarter, and better.”

Eric Olson, Co-Founder of Stryd

Wireless-enabled wearable technology devices that measure data are all the rage in sports technology. Items such as Fitbit and Samsung Galaxy Gear can measure heart rate, steps walked, etc. However, amongst the plethora of such devices, none of them can measure running power, except for Stryd.

In running and cycling, power is the holy grail that brings a completely new dimension to the sport. Heart rate used to be the main metric in fitness, but now, power has been shown to be the easiest and most instantaneous measurement. Styrd offers a clear measurement of power, which is a game changer for the sports world because the right amount of power can shatter the marathon world record of 2 hours.

What is Stryd?

All runners want to run faster. Power is a direct measurement of how much energy is used when running. The Stryd Running Power Meter is a small triangular device that can snap onto any athletic shoe and measures the runner’s power then sends the results directly to their smartwatch.

Stryd is revolutionizing sports technology by training the wearer’s body to access more power. Stryd gives runners a personalized power target, each one designed to improve endurance, strength, and speed. Stryd can even identify a runner’s weak spots and instruct them on specialized training to boost that area in order for them to run longer, faster, more frequently and consistently.

How Stryd’s technology works

Stryd uses the data of many athletes, measuring different variables i.e. how they land their feet, how they run, when they get exhausted, what’s happening to their feet when they are exhausted, what happens with their muscles, etc. These variables can be mined, and therefore, the device can understand when a runner is starting to fatigue in real time as well as when they are increasing their chances of injury. It can actually alert runners before they fatigue or possibly injure themselves. This makes it more efficient to run optimally on any terrain and in any weather condition.

“Stryd uses [patent-pending] sensing technologies to track a runner’s motion through 3D space and high resolution. We also track the environmental conditions you’re running through. And from that, we calculate your running power.”

Jamie Williamson, Co-Founder & Lead Engineer at Stryd.

Power is an objective measure for workout and running intensity. The small device that is simply clipped onto the laces of the shoe has a collection of sensors (mostly accelerometers) and a robust processor that measure acceleration and deceleration. This simply converts a runner’s forward and vertical motions into their amount of power.

“With Stryd for the first time, runners can actually measure their running efficiency and they can uncover ways of running faster without actually running harder.”

-Jamie Williamson

Stryd has been a remarkable tool for runners, in and out of marathon’s alike. Runner’s from all over the world have been using Stryd since the Colorado-based company launched its Kickstarter campaign in 2015.
